Behind Media Division: the Love for Cinema

A chat with Nikolas Moldenhauer, the man behind Media Division channel.

Before we start, be sure to listen/watch our episode on your fav platform, our Podcasts and releases are on YouTube and Spotify, leave us a follow and share some love!

As the first PlasmaVerse Podcast, I couldn’t have think about a better figure than Nikolas, a man who build the YouTube channel Media Division, that remains a must for all the tech/nerds and just passionates of Filmmaking

I knew Nikolas with his first videos from the Media Division channel, and I literally fell in love with them and with the fact that he actually took and speaks about everything in depth, crazy stuff included, about lenses and cinematography in general (just let me paste some of them down here, some of my fav ones, there is nothing better on the tube for a Cinematographer)

Than, after more than a year of chatting on Instagram, Nikolas contacted me asking to collaborate on an EPIC episode: an episode where he just went around physics, creating an f.03 Lens, the Impossible Lens… seems crazy? It is. And here is the episode:

And you might ask: ‘how you collaborate on this video Filippo?

I’ve been honored enough to make an HDR pass of the short film living inside the episode!

It was a blast for me testing and really taking the best out from the camera and this impossible lens, even for the fact that and HDR pass was literally needed in order to really see all the details on the pool shots and during the opening forst shots (I’m going to deeply talk about that on an incoming episode, just follow up the blog!)

By the way, for the ones asking, here’s the HDR video:

an important thing to say (it might be obvious but hey, not everyone here might know about this) – to watch this HDR episode, you need an HDR device, differently the HDR option WON’T SHOW on the ‘Quality Section’ of YouTube (even the latest iPhone have an HDR aware monitor, just be sure to play the video on the YouTube app and adjust the Play settings).

If you’re not familiar with HDR, no worries, I’m going to talk about this really soon (literally THIS episode, as it is a great case history for YouTube HDR delivery standards IMHO).

Back to the Podcast...

I literally enjoyed this as our first episode, and I would love to mention the KEY word that is moving Nikolas to manage the Media Division channel, and as I personally think, the word that makes the real difference between a standard ‘content creator’ and a great content creator: Passion

By minute one I understood that the chat was going to be great from the fact that Nikolas Love everything he do for his channel, and above all HE LOVES CINEMA!

Have I mentioned the fact that on one of our 2H call we literally talked for one our straight just about movies? That he is deeply in love for cinema and that his top tree directors are Ridley Scott, David Lynch and  Stanley Kubrik? What a man!

Love and passion is the #1 factor that moves any creative into creating great, unique and incredible content, and I hope to have Nikolas on our podcast again any soon.

For now, I leave you here again the links to the episode, and don’t forget to give a follow to Media Division on their social channels!

Thanks again Nikolas, and thanks to you for coming this far with the article, actually, my first article.. ever! So feedbacks are welcomed.
